Michael Woods (EF Education First) won stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana after making escaping in the final kilometer of the stage, from a group of 4 other counter attacking riders.
Stage 7 of the Vuelta a Espana saw another big fight for the breakaway, which went on for over 40km before a large group of 33 riders finally went clear on the Puerta de Orduna.
Stefan de Bod was one of our most active riders from the start and he would eventually be our lone representative in the large breakaway group.
In the peloton, Ineos were not keen on giving such a big group too much of a gap and so chased hard throughout the day, trying to keep the gap under 2-minutes.
The Puerta de Orduna had to be tackled a 2nd time, peaking with 19km to go, and this is where the race defining moves go. 5 riders from the big break went clear over the top, as de Bod, no longer part of the front selection dropped back to the reduced peloton of GC favourites and assisted Gino Mader through the stage finale.
Woods won the from the leading group of 5 riders while the GC group of Mader and de Bod came home 56 seconds down. Mader dropped one place on the overall GC and is once again in 18th position overall.
