Marc Soler (Movistar) won the 2nd stage of La Vuelta a Espana with a late attack on the descent of the final climb of the stage which finished in Lekunberri.
Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana was another tough climbing stage which also featured strong crosswind sections. NTT Pro Cycling rode in service of our young climber, Gino Mader, and the team did a great job to ensure he made the front group when the wind split the race ahead of the final climb of the stage.
Once again, Mader wasn’t able to follow the accelerations of the main GC contenders but inspired by hearing his teammate, Ben O’Connor, had just won the stage at the Giro d’Italia, Mader settled into a good rhythm, cresting the Alto de San Miguel de Aralar with 17km to go in the first chasing group.
Soler would ride away from the front group on the descent to take the stage win while Mader won the sprint from the original chase group, placing 12th on the stage and moving up to 18th on the overall GC.
