Tim Wellens (Lotto-Soudal) won stage 14 of the Vuelta a Espana, beating his 6 other breakaway companions to take the victory in Ourense.
Stage 14 of the Vuelta a Espana was another stage that, on paper, had breakaway written all over it. With a number of teams not having won anything this grand tour yet, the fight for the break was once again very intense.
Gino Mader, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Carlos Barbero were all part of moves that went clear from the peloton but unfortunately, in the end the move that went clear did so without any NTT Pro Cycling presence.
For the better part of the 204km stage though, it seemed there was still enough interest in the peloton to fight for the stage, as various teams came to contribute to the chase.
It was only with 20km to go, that all hope was lost and the gap began increasing to the front of the race once again.
The peloton would be sprinting it out for 8th place at best, and our Reinardt Janse van Rensburg took 14th place in the difficult uphill sprint.
