Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural) won the tough uphill sprint of stage 4 of the Vuelta a Burgos. Alexander Riabushenko (UAE Emirates) was 2nd and Rui Costa (UAE Emirates) placed 3rd.
Today’s 4th stage of the Vuelta a Burgos covered 174km with the familiar final 1.5km uphill finish of Ciudad Romana de Clunia. The finish has always been one where the sprinters go up against the punchy riders, with the GC men also in the mix in order to not lose any time.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka took the initiative during the stage with Jacques Janse van Rensburg working well with the Ineos team, to control the early break. Our efforts were in order to set up Nizzolo and Ghebreigzabhier for the final 1.5km.
The team did a good job to deliver our two key riders into the final left hand corner at 1.8km to go, in the first 10 positions. It was then a very long drawn out sprint up the climb, with Aranburu coming out on top.
Nizzolo finished 8th on the stage for us with Ghebreigzabhier in 12th. The result ensured our Eritrean also kept his 8th place overall, heading into tomorrow’s final stage.
