Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) won the Queen stage of the Vuelta a Valenciana, climbing to the stage win ahead of Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) and Pello Bilbao (Astana)
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka were fully behind Edvald Boasson Hagen today, trying to set up the Norwegian for the final cat 2 finishing climb. It was a tall order asking our sprinter to go head to head with the climbers but Boasson Hagen was prepared to roll the dice.
Some strong early work by the likes of Lars Bak, Jay Thomson, Giacomo Nizzolo was backed up by strong support from Ben King, Enrico Gasparotto and Roman Kruziger to keep the race in check until the final climb.
Boasson Hagen then did his best to limit his losses as the climbers ripped up the final mountain, eventually finishing 48 seconds down. This saw “The Boss” surrender the yellow jersey but still hang onto a commendable 9th place overall.
