Tour of Turkey #3: Cavendish sprints to 3rd!

Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quickstep) sprinted to the stage 3 Tour of Turkey victory. Race leader Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) bagged 2nd while Mark Cavendish took a good 3rd place for us.

Stage 3 of the Tour of Tukey was a “short and sweet” 122km with a rapid big bunch sprint finish. Our Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka were backing Cavendish for the finale, and did a great job to set up the sprint.

Jaco Venter did a lion share of the early pacing work before leading our sprint train into the final 8km. Our young team of Scott Davies, Ben O’Connor, Stefan de Bod and Ryan Gibbons then did a fine job to pilot Mark Renshaw and Cavendish into the final km.

Renshaw’s experience showed when things got a little tight and he dropped Cavendish off in prime position for the sprint. Despite needing to make a quick switch around a Deceuninck leadout rider in the final meters, Cavendish still got up for a good 3rd place finish.
