The 10th edition of the Tour of Oman once again should feature some exciting racing with opportunities on offer for all types of riders over the course of the six stages.
Our line-up sees 3 riders fresh from the South African championships on the start line while Ben O’Connor and Tom-Jelte Slagter are joined by the Italian duo of Giacomo Nizzolo and Enrico Gasparotto, who both opened their accounts for Team Dimension Data at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.
Riders to watch
Our team sees us well covered for any eventuality so keep a keen eye out for Ben O’Connor, Enrico Gasparotto and Ryan Gibbons. But don’t be surprised if we’re talking about one of the other selected riders during the week!
While our team will be looking at opportunities both in the sprint stages as well as those better suited to the puncheurs, without doubt all focus will be on the 5.7km (10.5%) climb to the finish on Green Mountain in the penultimate stage of the race.
It’s here that we’ll see the climbers come into their own and, quite possibly, the race decided with Australian Ben O’Connor eyeing that opportunity for Team Dimension Data.
He said what?
“My approach to Green Mountain will be to be relaxed and let the legs do the talking. It’s a super steep climb of 10.5% so you’re not going to be able to hide, you’re not going to be canny, you’ve just got to have faith in the training and the ability that you’ve done before. It’s the first mountain-top finish of the year and my shape over the last two or three weeks has really started to pick up so I’m excited. I’m not going to shy away from the fact that I’d love to try and aim for the Young Riders jersey and then see what kind of placing we can get from there. So yeah, I’m ready to try.” – Ben O’Connor
