Tour of Britain #6: Another Top10 for Boasson Hagen

Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka got in the mix again on stage 6 of Tour of Britain as Edvald Boasson Hagen finished eighth in the bunch sprint.

Early on today’s stage, which started out under the pouring rain, a group of seven riders got away. The peloton seemed content with the situation but they never let the gap exceed three minutes. The front group was kept on a tight leash by the teams of the sprinters and GC riders at all time.

However, at the end, the breakaway turned out to be harder to catch than expected. It wasn’t until the riders took on the last two kilometers of the stage that it all came back together again. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka did well to position Boasson Hagen near the front but the Norwegian lost a few positions on the slippery road in the last corner. He got boxed in a little and had to settle for eighth place as Caleb Ewan (Orica-Scott) sprinted to victory.

In the general classification, Boasson Hagen is only 19 seconds off the leading rider Lars Boom (Team LottoNL-Jumbo). Tomorrow, a hard and undulating stage awaits the riders. Stage 7 is expected to be the next big fight amongst the riders gunning for the overall victory.

Roger Hammond – Sports director:
“Unfortunately, Scotty [Thwaites] had a bad day so we were down to just three riders for the leadout. It was a technical sprint and you always need a bit of luck. Eddy [Boasson Hagen] lost the wheel in the last corner and in a final like this, there is just no time to make it up. However, tomorrow’s stage really suites Eddy so we are all looking forward to tomorrow now. Let’s see what we can do”.
