Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s Edvald Boasson Hagen continues to stay within contention for the overall victory in Tour of Britain. The 30-year-old finished in 16th place in the time trial on stage 5 and he’s now eighth overall.
After a very strong start to the race with several top performances, Edvald Boasson Hagen was eager to take on Thursday’s 16.2 km long individual time trial. In a fierce fight against the clock, the powerful Norwegian lost a little time to the top favorites but he managed to do well to finish the day 30 seconds behind the winner, Lars Boom (Team LottoNL-Jumbo).
In the general classification, Boasson Hagen is still close to first positions as he sits in eighth place, 19 seconds behind Boom who moved into the overall lead of the race after his victory today. Tomorrow await 187 km for the riders going from Newmarket to Aldeburgh with a slightly uphill finish, which could suit Boasson Hagen very well.
Edvald Boasson Hagen:
“I can’t complain about anything today. I didn’t have any problems out on the course and I went as fast as I could. Unfortunately, it wasn’t fast enough to get the win and I’m now a little bit off the GC too. The next days will be challenging but we will do what we can”.
