Paddy Bevin (CCC) won the crashed marred stage 2 of the Santos Tour Down Under, beating Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) and Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) to the line.
For Team Dimension Data, as Lars Bak so adequately put it after the stage, “Today was all about saving Private Ryan”. That being young Ryan Gibbons of course.
Unfortunately Gibbons didn’t get to show of his sprinting prowess today, following his 5th place finish yesterday, as a mass crash in the final kilometer held up nearly all of the peloton.
Fortunately none of our Team Dimension Data boys were involved but with all being caught behind it, contesting for stage honours was not possible today.
