The Tour de Suisse got off to fast and furious start with Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) winning the 6km prologue. Stefan Kung (BMC Racing) finished in 2nd place and Mathias Brandle (Trek-Segafredo) completed the podium.
Our Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka riders all gave the short course a good crack today but were not really expecting to challenge the specialists for the win. With an average speed of 56.25km/h, Dennis’ time was not going to be touched today. Reinardt Janse van Rensburg would prove to be our fastest on the day, as he came in just 20 seconds down on the time of Dennis. With all the times being so close though, Janse van Rensburg would slot into 23rd position for the stage.
The Tour de Suisse continues tomorrow with a 172km circuit stage around Cham. Our African Team will be looking toward Reinardt Janse van Rensburg once again if it all comes down to a bunch kick. A sprint is not set in stone though so we will certainly look to take our chances with a roster of riders all ready to race from the front.
