Primoz Roglic (Team Jumbo Visma) showed he is clearly ready for the Giro d’Italia, sprinting to the stage 1 Tour de Romandie win ahead of a select group of GC contenders. David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) was 2nd and Rui Costa (UAE-Emirates) finished 3rd.
It’s been a tough start to the Tour de Romandie for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka, losing Jacques Janse van Rensburg yesterday to a broken collarbone after his prologue crash. This morning young Gino Mader did not start, due to discomfort in the wrist he broke at the Volta Catalunya.

2 non starters for us today. @Jacquesjvren after breaking his collarbone yesterday and @maedergino.
Gino broke his wrist in Volta Catalunya, and after experiencing discomfort in the same wrist yesterday, will not start as a precautionary measure. 🖐🏼
Jay Thomson did find the early break of the day initially but the tough course was always going to be for the GC contenders today. Louis Meintjes, after an extended recovery period, was part of the final 40 rider selection that only split further in the last 15km of the stage.
Meintjes finished 2’10” down on Roglic in the end, definitely a good starting point to now build upon for our South African, as he aims to return to full fitness over the coming weeks.
