Tour de Romandie #5: Sprint finish rounds out Romandie week

Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) won the final stage of the Tour de Romandie from a big bunch sprint. Primoz Roglic (LottoNL-Jumbo) held onto his yellow jersey to win the race overall.

The final stage of the Tour de Romandie was an undulating 181km with the finish situated in Geneve. After the GC contenders stole the show on all the earlier stages, today the sprinters would not miss out on their one and only opportunity.

An early 5-rider break was controlled by Bahrain-Merida and Bora-Hansgrohe throughout the stage, before being caught with 10km to go. Our African Team, without a sprinter, could still be spotted at the head of the peloton as Jaco Venter and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier rode hard to keep Merhawi Kudus positioned at the head of the affairs during the finale.

To the line, Bora-Hansgrohe would be the strongest, delivering Ackermann to what was an easy win in the end. Kudus was our African Team’s first finisher, crossing the line in 16th position on the stage. Roglic won the overall after not putting a foot wrong all week, and our Eritrean climber would end the race in 26th for us.
