David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) won stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie, taking the uphill sprint ahead of Rui Costa (UAE-Emirates) and Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).
It was an undulating stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie, one which saw a reduced group of around 50 riders arrive at the uphill finale in Romont. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka did well to look after Louis Meintjes & Danilo Wyss throughout the 160km stage, as both our riders were part of the select group at the finish.
The explosive uphill finish suited the specialists like Michael Woods and Sonny Collbrelli but a crash in the final 500m threw a number of riders off, and Gaudu was able to capitalize. Meintjes showed some positive signs by hanging with the best, finishing just outside the top 20 today, 13 seconds behind Gaudu.
“Louis Meintjes has been showing some good progression so far this week, given that he has been out with injury and does not have much racing in the legs yet. Today was another confirmation that he is heading in the right direction, and starting to fight a bit again in the finals of some tough stages.” – Gino van Oudenhove, Sport Director
