Tour de France Stage 6: Reaction

Domenico Pozzovivo fought impressively on stage 6 of the Tour de France to finish in the maillot jaune group at Mont Aigoual.

Alexey Lutsenko (Astana), one of the day’s early escapees in the breakaway eventually rode solo to a hugely impressive win. Jesus Herrada (COF) was second with Greg van Avermaet (CCC) third.

Edvald Boasson Hagen made the day’s eight-man breakaway and also took maximum points at the intermediate points, before he dropped back to finish safely in a big group following

I was one of the last to get into the break and I actually had quite a nice day out there on the front and then when I came to the climb it wasn’t too great, as we expected. But I enjoyed being out in the break, it was good.

I hope to find a good stage where I can be in the breakaway and it hopefully it’s not such big climbs to the final and I will hopefully be there; the goal is to be the strongest at the line.

I’ve had just a brief look at tomorrow’s stage and I think it’s going to be a sprint, so I look forward to helping out Giacomo and I’m ready for that.

Before the climbs we did an average speed of 47 km/h and then on the climb the tempo was made by Ineos Grenadiers. It was hard then but not impossible to follow and we were in a group of around 40 riders.

There was not a big fight in the final because there were still some riders in the front. I was happy to be feeling better in the last couple of days and I hope I can recover better overnight because from the crash I haven’t slept that well over the last few days. I’m very motivated for the next mountain stages over the weekend.
