Tour de France #18: Tough day for all in the Alps

Nairo Quintana (Movistar) won stage 18 of the Tour de France, winning after being in the main break of the day. Roman Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) was 2nd and Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) finished 3rd.

It was a fast start for stage 18 of the Tour de France before eventually, 34 riders went clear. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka did not have anyone in the front group so we had to shift our focus to supporting Roman Kreuziger before the main climbs of the stage began.

The 207km stage from Embrun to Valloire included 3 massive mountains, Col de Vars, Col D’Izoard and finally the Col du Galibier. Kreuziger came into difficulty on the Izoard but was able to rejoin the yellow jersey group on the descent.

On the Galibier, our Czech climber had to ride within himself as the main GC contenders started to up the tempo. Kreuziger would lose just 5-minutes to the yellow jersey group by the finish, and remained 15th on the overall GC.
