Tour de France #14: Kreuziger consistent on Tourmalet

Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) climbed to the stage 14 victory at the Tour de France. Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-Quickstep) extended his overall race lead by finishing 2nd. Steven Kruijswijk (Team Jumbo-Visma) placed 3rd.

Stage 14 of the Tour de France only covered 117km but it included two category one climbs, the final climb being a summit finish a top the Col du Tourmalet.

Being the first stage in the Pyrenees that was truly expected to shake up the GC, Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka were focused on Roman Kreuziger once again. Our experienced Czech climber rode within himself on the two big climbs of the stage, and would cross the line in 20th on the stage.

With the likes of Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott), Patrick Konrad (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Roman Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale) all coming into difficulty today, Kreuziger’s consistency saw him climb back up to 17th on GC.

Our other 6 Team Dimension Data riders, after having played their supporting roles to Kreuziger, all finished today’s stage without too much trouble. Tomorrow will be yet another stage in the mountains, as the peloton takes on 185km between Limoux and Foix.
