Mitchelton-Scott won the opening 21km team time trial of Tirreno-Adriatico, placing Michael Hepburn in the blue leaders jersey.
The stage was certainly one of two halves, as the first teams had to contend with a rain soaked course, only to have the sun come out and dry out the road for the later starters.
Unfortunately for our Team Dimension Data squad, we drew a short straw being the 2nd team off. In the end, it was a 16th place finish for our African team, 1’34” down on the Australian team.
“Today’s result is not really a true reflection of our performance but the weather is not something we could control. To still see some strong teams behind us, that puts our ride into perspective. We will start the next stages with confidence as we have everything to fight for still.” – Bingen Fernandez, Sport Director
