The final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico was won by Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) with Jos Van Emden (LottoNL-Jumbo) securing 2nd and Jonathan Castroviejo (Team Sky) 3rd. The overall GC victory went to Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky)
It was once again the familiar 10km time trial around San Benedeto that concluded this year’s edition of Tirreno-Adriatico and our African Team, without a stage favourite was primarily focused on retaining a top 20 GC result with Louis Meintjes.
Edvald Boasson Hagen was our first starter of the day and the Norwegian champion would also set our fastest time of the day. Stopping the clock 37″ slower than Dennis, Boasson Hagen would place 30th on the stage. Scott Thwaites and Julien Vermote had no problems getting through the course either.
Meintjes was our final rider off, and despite not his best performance on the flat, out and back course, our slightly built South African climber was able to hang on to 17th place on the overall GC.
Louis Meintjes – Rider
It’s been a good week. I think we can be happy with the progress so far. Today didn’t really go according to plan because the legs didn’t feel great at all. Now I have about 5 days until Volta Catalunya and I think it’s a pretty good course for me so hopefully we can get a result there.
