The Journey

Our Journey

It’s been one journey, and we are far from done! Founded in 2007, Team Qhubeka became the first-ever African cycling team to gain a UCI WorldTour license, in 2016. We achieved our first major win in 2013 when Gerald Ciolek won Milan-San Remo, one of the five Monuments of cycling. We have competed in seven Tour de France’s and notched up 7 stage wins.

2022 saw us return to UCI Continental status as we took the next step in our journey that will see us rebuild, with the intention to return to highest level and once again represent Africa at the Tour de France. Here’s a selections of some of our favourite memories from the years.

“When something has never happened before, nothing is defined.” – Doug Ryder 2017

The story of an African cycling team’s dream and its rise to the pinnacle of the sport. Incredible highs and dramatic lows. This documentary takes you on the journey of Doug Ryder and his team with its higher purpose in the Qhubeka charity, as they attempt to summit the highest peaks of the cycling world.
