Fabio Jakobsen sprinted to the Vuelta a Espana stage 8 win, crossing the line in La Manga del Mar Menor ahead of Alberto Dainese (Team DSM) and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix).
For Team Qhubeka NextHash, stage 8 of La Vuelta started without our sprinter, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg as the South African had missed the time cut yesterday. So today’s flat sprint stage was all about staying out of trouble and protecting Fabio Aru.
The team were easily able to do this, even when there was a threat of echelons with around 45km to go, as Aru was always positioned safely near the head of the peloton.
Jakobsen was fastest in the mass gallop for the line, taking his 2nd stage win of the race. Connor Brown was our first rider over the line, in 34th on the stage. Fabio Aru retained his 13th position on GC, as the race heads back into the mountains tomorrow with another mountain summit finish.
