Today Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka take on the Italian semi-classic, Tre Valli Varesine. The UCI 1.HC event covers a distance of 212km and will provide an opportunity to those who take a liking to the short punchy climbs around Varese.
After making their way from Saronno to Varese, the peloton will have 2 large laps and then 6 shorter local laps through the city to contend with. It is on these shorter 12.8km circuit laps, which includes 2 uphill sections, where the race defining moments should occur.
Team Dimension Data will head to the 98th edition of the Tre Valli Varesine one rider short, with Serge Pauwels not able to start due to a bout of illness.
Nevertheless, our African Team will line-up with a strong 6-rider squad consisting of Merhawi Kudus, Steve Cummings, Natnael Berhane, Ben O’Connor, Johann van Zyl and stagiaire, Matteo Sobrero. With Giro di Lombardia looming this weekend, our African Team will hope to show good race smarts today and contend for a top result.

Over 300 years after Gelato was invented in Florence, the city of Verese – where today’s race finishes- mobilised ice cream with the development of the Gelato cart in the 1930’s.
Soon the pedal version of the cart was developed.
A bicycle and ice cream – how Italian.
Hope they serve Gelato on the podium!
