The Dubai Tour will be where a number of big name riders start their 2017 season, including our own Mark Cavendish. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka are excited to be heading to the United Arab Emirates for this UCI 2.HC event, which starts tomorrow, the 31st January and will finish on Saturday the 4th.
After an incredible 2016 season, which began on the road at the Dubai Tour for Cavendish, our African Team are thrilled to be back for the 4th edition of this event with the Manx Missile. This year the event has grown from 4 stages to 5, and the additional stage will be welcomed by our sprint heavy line up.
After 2 stage podium placings last year, Cavendish is eager to test his early season form around Dubai once again. Lieutenants Bernhard Eisel and Mark Renshaw will start alongside Cavendish too while Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Scott Thwaites, Jay Thomson, Nic Dougall and neo-pro, Ryan Gibbons give our African Team incredible depth for this race.
As 4 of the 5 stages could possibly suit a sprint finish, our African Team will certainly target the top step in the bunch gallop stages. Stage 4 will return to the finishing climb of Hatta Dam but as was proved last year, the climb is not too difficult for some of the sprinters to limit their losses just enough to remain in contention for the overall classification. Our fast finishing South African, Janse van Rensburg showed by winning the Tour de Langkawi last year that he has all the qualities to perform well on this type of finish.

I am looking forward to finally getting the season started in Dubai. We have a good team here to support Cavendish in the sprints and we are definitely looking forward to some possible victories. Also, the fourth stage to Hatta Dam is something that can suit me personally.
