Tomorrow Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will compete at De Brabantse Pijl – La Fleche Brabanconne. The UCI 1.HC race will run from Leuven to Overijse, taking in 201km through the Flanders region.
De Brabantse Pijl is seen as the transitional classic between the spring cobbled classics to the Ardennes classics, which begin next Sunday with the Amstel Gold Race. De Brabantse Pijl takes places in the Flanders region of Belgium and so many traditional cobbled roads and steep climbs (21 noted Hellingen) will make up the testing route.
Our African Team will start this final Flanders classic with the young Flemish rider, Michael Goolaerts, who tragically passed away on Sunday after Paris-Roubaix, in our hearts. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and team, Verandas Willems-Crelan.
Edvald Boasson Hagen, Julien Vermote, Serge Pauwels, Ryan Gibbons, Johann van Zyl, Scott Davies and Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier will be our 7 riders lining up at the start in Leuven tomorrow.
JP Heynderickx – Sport Director
Tomorrow will see a combination of Flanders and Ardennes classics riders come together. There are many climbs on the parcours, this will make it a tough race but one we look forward to. We’d like to pay our respects to Michael Goolaerts family, friends and team. I know the whole peloton will ride with him on our minds tomorrow.
Cover Image Explained
It’s the last of the Flanders Classics with the Brabantse Pijl. Incorporating the Qhubeka (high 5000) hand into the Flanders Lion means a lot to us, as does the support we and the Qhubeka charity enjoy from the people of Flanders.
We celebrate the final race of the Flemish Classics with a heavy heart. We are saddened by the loss of a young talent and wish to pay respect to a fellow cycling soul. In honour and memory of Michael Goolaerts.
