Lineup: South African National Championships

The Swadini Resort, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa, will play host to the 2020 South African Road Championships between 7-9 February. NTT Pro Cycling will be represented in both the Elite & U23 time trial and road race categories at the championships.

The time trial events will take place on Friday, where we will have Stefan de Bod competing in the Elite category and Marc Pritzen, who rides for our continental feeder team, in the u23 event. Both events will be run over the same, mostly flat, 36km circuit course.

The u23 and Elite road race takes place on Sunday, where de Bod and Pritzen will be joined by Ryan Gibbons for the 175km event, which will include 5 laps of the time trial route from Friday.

Pritzen will start the road race as the defending champion of last year, in the u23 category.

Both de Bod & Gibbons will head to the championships off the back of a relatively successful block of racing in Australia, where they were part of our team that secured our first World Tour victory of the season, when Giacomo Nizzolo won stage 5 at the Santos Tour Down Under.

Stefan de Bod

“It was good to get some racing done in Australia, and get some miles in the legs, with good weather. I’m really looking forward to the national champs this week. I’m feeling really good for that and I think we will be really strong there. It’s going to be a good race. We will do the best race that we can, and hopefully we can take the jersey. “

Ryan Gibbons

“I am really looking forward to racing SA Champs this weekend. It is the only race of the year we get to do on home soil and it’s a the only chance we get to race in front of friends and family. It’s naturally a big objective for myself and NTT Pro Cycling but it’s also never an easy race. This year it’s only myself and Stefan de Bod and it will be a challenge taking on the rest of the local peloton but we are ready. The past two years I’ve been plagued with crashes and mechanicals so I’m just hoping for a smooth race which will hopefully yield a top result.”
