Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka lines up with an all-African team for the Swiss World Tour stage race, Tour de Romandie, which starts tomorrow on Tuesday, April 25 and ends on Sunday, April 30.
The opening stage of Tour de Romandie is a short 4.8 km prologue, taking place in Aigle. Afterwards, no less than three of the remaining five stages finish uphill. Especially stage 1 and 4 are very tough with several hard climbs to overcome before a mountaintop finish.
On the final day of racing, the riders will once again fight against the clock. This time, a difficult 18.3 km time trial awaits them. On a very hard and undulating course, nothing is settled until the last rider crosses the finishing line in Lausanne.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka brings a strong team with multiple good climbers, all rising from the African continent. Merhawi Kudus will lead the team after a good start to the season with several strong performances on the climbs. To support Kudus, and to try their own luck during the race, the following riders have been called up for this prestigious race: Natnael Berhane, Mekseb Debesay, Adrien Niyonshuti, Youcef Reguigui, Daniel Teklehaimanot, Jay Thomson and Jaco Venter.
“I’m really looking forward to this year’s Tour de Romandie. I came to look at some of the stages with my coach a few weeks ago and I think it will be a tough race, like all the World Tour races are. I also know these roads from my time here at the UCI Center so for sure I will target some of the stages that suit me. As a team, we want to show off the team colors and be on the attack. I think stage wins and a classification jersey will be possible for us”.
