The start of the season ending one day classics get underway this weekend for Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka as we take on the Kampionschap van Vlaanderen on Friday, the Primus Classic on Saturday and GP d’Isbergues on Sunday.
The three single day events could provide for an exciting sprint fest this weekend as each event has seen bunch kicks decide the winners in the recent past. The Primus Classic (1.HC) which carries a higher UCI ranking than the Kampionschap van Vlaanderen (UCI 1.1) and GP d’Isbergues (UCI 1.1) does offer a bit more for the riders who prefer a punchier parcours though.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will send the same 8 riders to each event with sprint focused finishes in mind. Mark Cavendish will headline our team for the two Belgian and single French classic, coming off the back of his return to racing at the Tour of Britain last week. Cavendish will be joined by Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Ryan Gibbons, Mark Renshaw, Bernie Eisel, Johann van Zyl, Nic Dougall and Adrien Niyonshuti.

We have three nice but tough races coming up this weekend. Sprints may have decided these races in the past but you will notice it’s never the complete peloton at the line so tactically we must be good. As single day events, you only get one shot to pull off the victory so that creates its own kind of pressure but that also means we have 3 good opportunities this weekend to win. For sure everyone will look to Cavendish as a threat but I think we have numerous options with guys like Janse van Rensburg, Gibbons and Renshaw too, so that puts us in a good position to have such a strong team.
