The second half of the season will commence for a number of our Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka riders tomorrow, as we take on the UCI 2.1 Adriatica Ionica Race.
The Adriatica Ionica Race will run over five days, starting tomorrow, with 4 of the days suiting the fast men while stage three’s summit finish will likely be the big GC deciding stage.
Louis Meintjes finally makes his return to racing at Adriatica Ionica, after recovering from the wrist fracture that he sustained at the Tour of California in May. He’ll be joined by fellow South African Ryan Gibbons, who will look to begin building upon his successful first 6 months of the year.
This race also sees welcome returns for Mark Cavendish, Mark Renshaw, Bernie Eisel and Rasmus Tiller whose last outing was all at the Tour of Slovenia.
Danilo Wyss completes our line-up, who will play a crucial support role both for Meintjes on the queen stage and the rest of the squad during the rest of the race.
“It’s been frustrating to be on the sidelines while waiting for my wrist to recover sufficiently to be able to get back into racing. So I’m really pleased to get on the start line here. We’ve got a really strong and exciting line-up, so I can’t wait to get racing.” – Louis Meintjes
“We will have some fresh and motivated riders at the Adriatica Ionica Race. The majority of the peloton will be in the same position though, as there has not been much else racing going in July, other than the Tour de France. The parcour here has something for everyone, from flat sprints, a punchy finish and gravel roads to the big climb up to Lago di Misurina. This will make for an exciting race and we will look to be one of the main protagonists of the race each stage.” – Bingen Fernandez, Sport Director
