Liege-Bastogne-Liege, a UCI World Tour classic and one of the five monuments of cycling, takes place on Sunday. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will take on the famous classic with an unchanged team from Fleche-Wallonne.
The “Old Lady” of the classics has a new finish this year and it has pretty much blown the race wide open. Riders will still have to contest over 256km of some of the toughest Ardenne’s terrain, but with the final climb peaking some 15km before the finish, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the race could play out.
Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will again start with Enrico Gasparotto and Roman Kreuziger as our protected riders, though it is uncertain how Kreuziger will feel after his big crash at Fleche-Wallonne. Tom-Jelte Slagter showed good signs during the midweek race and will be an asset to our leaders, along with the remainder of our team.
“Liege-Bastogne-Liege is a historic race and it is a privilege to be at the start. Our team has shown some progression during these Ardennes classics and Gasparotto’s top 10 at Fleche-Wallonne has given us confidence and momentum to take into Liege-Bastogne-Liege. We expect an inspired performance from our guys on Sunday, it will be a great race so we hope to be a factor in the new finale.” Alex Sans Vega – Sport Director
