Our continental team rode superbly to set-up the win for Leonardo Marchiori at Firenze-Empoli today. There were no big attacks or breakaways on the 142,5km race, except for two riders who made it away in the beginning.
In the end, it came down to a massive bunch sprint, with around 80 riders fighting for the win. The team worked well to keep Marchiori in the front before his final sprint, which he launched with 300m to go, and which secured the victory.
“Today was a great day for us. The whole team worked perfectly and helped me position myself in front of every climb and the final sprint. At the end I used my sprinter instincts and positioned myself in the right wheel and after I launched my sprint with 300m to go and was able to stay in front until the line.”
