Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quickstep) won stage 4 of the Vuelta a Espana in a photo-finish with Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe). Fernando Gavaria (UAE-Emirates) was 3rd.
Stage 4 of the Vuelta Espana was another chance for the sprints teams and they certainly capitalized, with an exciting mass sprint deciding the victor in El Puig after 175km.
The run into town was fast and the peloton was hit with crosswinds in the final 15km which caused a few splits. Unfortunately Louis Meintjes was caught out at the back and would go on to finish in the first chase group, some 4-minutes down, and taking a big knock to his GC aspirations.
Up front, Edvald Boasson Hagen was battling for position leading into the sprint finale, with Nic Dlamini on-hand to provide some support. Boasson Hagen was squeezed out around the long side of a roundabout with 1.5km to go and lost a few important positions.
Starting the sprint from some places back, our Norwegian went on to cross the line in 7th place on the stage. Dlamini being our next best as he finished 17th, a confidence boosting result for our young South African in his debut grand tour.
