Fabio Jakobsen (Deceunick-Quickstep) sprinted to the Vuelta a Espana stage 4 victory, coming in just ahead of Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ) and Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education – Nippo)
Stage 4 of the Vuelta a Espana was another opportunity for the fast men, although a technical final 4km run-in, which also included a slight uphill rise over the last 300 meters, made it quite a tricky finale to judge correctly.
Reinardt Janse van Rensburg was again the go to rider for Team Qhubeka NextHash, as he looked to improve upon his 13th place finish from the stage 2 sprint finish.
Coming into the finishing town of Molina de Aragon, the peloton had covered the 163km stage at just over 44km/h, as the sprinters charged to the line. Janse van Rensburg found it difficult to keep a good position near the front of the peloton as riders kept swamping to the front, from the back.
The South African went into the final right hand corner with just over 1km to go, in around 30th position. This was slightly too far back for the uphill ramp to the line. Nevertheless, he still produced a good kick to cross the line in 11th place but was not able to challenge for the front placings today.
Our other Team Qhubeka NextHash riders all got through the stage safely, with Fabio Aru also maintaining his 13th place on the overall GC.
