After a nasty crash on stage 2 of Volta Catalunya, team doctor Dr Christopher Edler provides an update on Gino Mader and Ben O’Connor.
“Upon further examination, it has been confirmed that Gino Mäder fractured his left distal radius (wrist) after crashing on stage 2 of the Volta Catalunya. There was no dislocation and therefore Gino will not require surgery. To aid his recovery he will be in a cast for the next 4-6 weeks.
Ben O’Connor was involved in the same crash with Gino. Ben has multiple abrasions (road rash) and bruising as a result. We will monitor Ben overnight but our expectation is that he will be able to start tomorrow’s stage.”
