Tyler Farrar underlined his strong performance at the Herald Sun Tour with another podium finish. After 147km from Mitchelton Winery to Nagambie he came home in second position, with only Australian Caleb Ewan (Orica-Greenedge) being faster across the line. In the overall Cameron Meyer (Orica-Greenedge) held on to the lead.
Today’s stage saw an early break going clear. The wet roads helped the group of six to quickly establish a lead of 3 minutes. Having no rider in the front group Songezo Jim and Nic Dougall showed the stripes at the front of the peloton. They did well and played an important role in the chase. The peloton eventually caught the break on the last kilometer.
It was then on Matt Goss to take over. His lead-out proofed to be key for Tyler. Our American fast man was beaten on the line by Ewan but was strong enough to hold of Steel von Hoff (NFTO) and to secure another podium for MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung.
Serge Pauwels held on to his good overall position. With Sundays tough final ahead the team is hopeful to get another chance for victory and to finish the race in the top10.
Michel Cornelisse – Sport Director
“The team worked really well today. After missing out on the break Songezo and Nic really put the power down at the front of the peloton. Once the lead group was reeled in again Matt Goss did a great job in delivering Tyler to the line, helping the team to get another podium.”
