Greg Van Avermaet (CCC Team) took the honours in Montreal, ahead of Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates), with Ivan Garcia (Bahrain-Merida) . Michael Valgren continued our team’s strong performance, wrapping up the weekend races with a 5th place.
The break of the day enjoyed the majority of the race out front, but the teams with sprint ambitions kept a watchful eye over proceedings. Once they had been caught, there were plenty attacks off the front, with Reinardt Janse van Rensburg featuring in a few moves. Valgren was well positioned in the reduced bunch in the final lap and took 5th place. Reinardt Janse van Rensburg finished 27th.
Quote- Michael Valgren
“It was a super long race, with two extra laps. It was quite relaxed at the start, but started to get harder as we neared the end. In the end, I had really good legs, so I was able to stay with the best riders on the climb. In the sprint I was tired, but tried to make a move and follow Tim Wellens I couldn’t bring and it cost me a little bit for the last sprint, but I happy to take 5th. I received great support from the team the whole day, and I think we can be happy with our weekend in Canada. Tom took 6th in Quebec and with my 5th place today, I think it was great team effort. I also wanted to put in a strong performance for Rolf, as he is one of the main reasons I joined this team (last year).
My legs feel good, so this improved my confidence ahead of Worlds.”
