Giro d’Italia #17: Another day for the break

Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) won stage 17 of the Giro d’Italia. Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott) finished in 2nd place and Davide Formolo (Bora-Hansgrohe) was 3rd.

It was another day in the mountains at the Giro d’Italia and yet another day for the breakaway to take the stage. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka desperately tried to make the early break but unfortunately, came up short when 18 riders finally got the gap.

It was another frustrating miss for us, with little to show already since the sprint stages last week. Tomorrow’s stage will provide some respite from the big mountains in Northern Italy, as a mostly downhill run should provide one final opportunity for the sprinters.

Ryan Gibbons will no doubt be up for a fast finish and we’ll look to support our South African sprinter, with the hope of getting a decent result out of this Giro d’Italia.
