The Garmin Velothon Berlin came down to the expected bunch sprint and it was Ramon Sinkeldam (Giant-Alpecin) who was fastest on the day. Sam Bennett (Bora-Argon 18) would be 2nd, just ahead of Zico Waeytens (Giant-Alpecin) in 3rd.
It would be a blanket finish at the line in Berlin and our Gerald Ciolek was only a bike length from the victory. The results however had Gerald placed in 6th position on the day. This came after a good team performance by MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung, keeping Gerald protected during the course of the race.
There was an early break of 4 riders who were able to gain just over 5 minutes on the peloton. With the race finishing on a flat 9km circuit that would be completed 8 times, the break had very little chance of surviving. Giant-Alpecin and Cannondale-Garmin set much of the pace in the closing kilometers to ensure the break was reeled in with 8km to go.

Gerald finished 6th today so he was in the game. The boys did a good race, they were always present and took responsibility. We made the leadout for Gerald who is in Germany a big champion and was the biggest name of the German riders here at the race. So we protected him and delivered him to the finish where he sprinted to 6th place. He gained a few UCI points from today, we obviously hoped for more today but we can be happy with our points and that Gerald showed his form is heading the right way.
