Romain Bardet (Team DSM) won stage 14 of the Vuelta a Espana, going solo to the line from an 18-rider breakaway. Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) was 2nd and Jay Vine (Alpecin-Fenix) finished 3rd.
Stage 14 of the Vuelta a Espana saw an 18-rider break go clear in the first 5km of the stage. The move was initiated by our very own Dylan Sunderland, before his companions for the day joined him.
They built a lead of over 14-minutes to the peloton, which was enough to ensure they would decide the stage victor among themselves on the tough 165km mountain stage.
Bardet proved to be the best, going solo on the final summit finish climb with just over 5km to go. Sunderland rode well through the stage but couldn’t match the more specialist climbers on the final mountain and finished 13th on the stage. Still, an impressive ride for the Australian.
Our six other Team Qhubeka NextHash riders all also made it safely to the finish, and will take on another tough mountain stage tomorrow before being able to enjoy a rest day on Monday.
