Reinardt Janse van Rensburg finished 5th on stage two in Trier on Friday as Maximillian Schachmann secured another victory for Quick-Step Floors.
The South African, thanks to his teammates, was well positioned in the front group coming into the final 5km of the 197km stage.
Tom Doumoulin (Sunweb) made a decisive move with about 4km to go that saw Schachmann join him as they quickly opened up a gap.
Matej Mohoric and Nils Politt managed jump across to join them in the final stages, that saw a sprint for the line among the four with thr German taking the honours.
Janse van Rensburg finished strongest of the group just behind and so is also 5th on GC, 18 seconds behind the race leader.
Earlier on in the stage Scott Davies and Jacques Janse van Rensburg had done some really strong work as the race started to split up in the final third.
While the rest of our team all tode safely home looking forward to the remaining two stages.
Scott Davies – Rider
It was a long day today, nearly 200km, so myself and Jacques were told to cover any movea so it was nice to represent, so it was a really good ride by Reinardt again finishing 5th on the stage.
We’re all in for Reinardt whose obviously got some great form so hopefullyhe’ll pick up some more results.
In terms of the mood in the group, it’s been a good week so far and hopefully we keep it up and keep the results coming.
