Hugh Carthy (Rapha Condor JLT) went on to win the queen stage of the Tour de Korea and secured the leaders yellow jersey on his way. Hyeong Min Choe (Guemsan) crossed the line in 2nd with Jack Haig (Avanti Racing) in 3rd, both riders were 7″ down on Carthy. Team MTN-Qhubeka p/b Samsung had Dennis van Niekerk finish in 14th position on the stage, just over minute down on the winner.
The stage was everything it was expected to be, 150km run up to the final 8km’s when the action would finally start. The 2 riders that broke away early on never stood a chance as the GC riders came out to play today. The summit finish would certainly decide the GC for the race as tomorrows final stage looks to be one for the sprinters.
On the final 7km climb that had an 8% average gradient, there were a number of early attacks including one from our very own Johann van Zyl. These attacks softened up the bunch and reduced the peloton to around 15-20 riders with 5km to go. Rapha Condor would then hit the leading group with a 1-2 punch. Richard Handley put in one hard attack for the British squad followed by a counter attack from Carthy inside of 2km to go. He would not be seen again.

I was feeling really good the whole day but the last 1.5km when the white jersey attacked i had nothing left to respond. I got ridden off when he attacked. I really wanted to do better, I thought that i could do better but i didn’t. Feeling really dissapointed after todays performance.
