BinckBank Tour #3: Breakaway rules the day

Taco van der Hoorn secured the biggest win of his career winning stage 3 of the BinckBank Tour as the breakaway defied the odds on a day that had been billed as one for the sprinters.

The Roompot rider saw off Maxine Vantomme (WB Aqua Protect Veranclassic) and Sean de Bie (Vérandas Willems-Crelan) who was third. Ryan Gibbons was our highest-placed finisher in 13th position as he came across the line with the main group 1 minute 11 seconds behind the winner.

Along with Gibbons, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Julien Vermote also finished in the main group while the rest of our team all rolled safely home further down the field.

Julien Vermote – Rider

It was an easy start to the race but then the final was as hard as the start was easy! We really went full out the last 70km or so because the break was so far up the road and then the final part was very technical in Antwerp so it wasn’t easy to catch up with the break.

It was really technical so it was important to be in front but at the end we didn’t catch them; we were still strong in front with Reinie and Ryan but we weren’t sprinting anymore for first so that was a pity.
