Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka and the rest of the peloton were in for a wet and slippery time trial on stage 2 of BinckBank Tour. Stefan Küng (BMC Racing Team) took the win, while Jay Thomson (photo, stock) finished as the team’s best rider against the clock.
With a team primarily consisting of sprinters, the most important thing for the riders today were to stay upright and avoid any crashes on the nine kilometers around Voorburg. The following two stages are expected to finish in a bunch sprint. Therefore, it was only natural that the team took it a bit easy without risking anything on the wet roads. The main focus remains on the sprint stages.
Ultimately, pre-stage favorite, Küng, proved to be the strongest as he completed the course in 10:58 minutes, four seconds ahead of Maciej Bodnar (BORA – hansgrohe) and five seconds faster than Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb). Thomson crossed the line in 11:45 minutes and he’s now the team’s best-placed rider in the general classification. Küng leads the race overall.
