A tough final stage of the stunning Arctic Race of Norway saw Enrico Gasparotto finish seventh and Steve Cummings 12th, both securing top-10 GC positions as a result.
The stage was won by Markus Hoelgaard (Uno-X) ahead of Amund Grondahl Jansen (Jumbo-Visma) and Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) who also won the race overall.
For Cummings he had to in the end give up his hopes of winning the salmon jersey in the King of the Mountains competition to secure the GC result, while for Gasparotto his final stage result mirrored his finish on the opening stage of the race.
“I think we did the maximum we could do, and we were present every day. I enjoyed the race and the dynamic of the group was excellent. Thank you to the team for all the support for myself and Gaspa.” – Steve Cummings
“Steve and I gave everything to secure our positions in the GC. For me, I missed my legs a little bit in the final against Lutsenko and the leaders but we gave it a try.
“I have a suggestion for the organisers that from the following races that we have a new jersey, a ‘Golden Oldies’ jersey which if it had been on offer then Steve and I could have won it!” – Enrico Gasparotto
