Quickstep-Floors won the opening stage team time trial of the Adratica Ionica Race, with Elia Viviani crossing the line first to don the overall race leaders jersey. UAE-Emirates was the 2nd fastest team over the 23km course and Trek-Segafredo placed 3rd.
The Adriatica Ionica Race got underway with a 23km team time trial in Lido di Jesolo. Our African Team was the 3rd team off from the start house out of 16 teams at the race. Despite being 1 rider short, our 6 riders were able to post a more than respectable time of 26’02” at an average speed of 53.7km/h.
In the end our time was good enough to place us 4th overall on the stage, 34 seconds behind stage winners Quickstep, and also being our best team time trial result in quite some time.

The first stage was a fast 23km team time trial. If you look over the entire performance, the team did a good job considering we were the only team with 6 riders on the start. On a course like this, with 1 rider less you pay a bit at the end. So to end in 4th position, that definitely wasn’t a bad result for us.
