Louis Meintjes has been forced to withdraw from the Amgen Tour of California after sustaining a wrist fracture in a crash in the finale of the stage four finish in Morro Bay. The incident happened with just over 3km remaining, and saw a number of key general classification riders affected, including race leader Tejay van Garderen (EF). The 27 year-old bravely completed the stage in obvious discomfort and was immediately seen to by our medical team at the finish, after which he was taken to a local hospital for further investigation. He will now travel to Hamburg for further treatment by a specialist surgeon. Meintjes.

Pascal Ackermann (Bora-Hansgrohe) won a rain drenched stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia, sprinting to victory ahead Fernando Gavaria (UAE-Emirates) and Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ). It was only a short 140km stage from Frascati to Terracina but racing got underway in a torrential downpour, which continued throughout the stage, making for another tough day out. A pan flat final 45km meant the sprinters would keep the early break of the day on a short leash, and ensure the finale came down to mass sprint. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka were once again looking to Giacomo Nizzolo for a result. Ryan Gibbons and Mark Renshaw kept Nizzolo.
