Jesper Asselman (Roompot-Charles) replicated the opening stage of the 2018 version of the Tour de Yorkshire by winning from the breakaway in the first stage of the 2019 version. Mark Cavendish finished eighth, among the front group of the bunch, as one of five of our riders all on the same time. In very cold and wet conditions over the duration of the course from Doncaster to Selby; Nic Dlamini, Rasmus Tiller and Tom-Jelte Slagter all took turns on the front of the group, along with other teams, to try and reel in the four-man breakaway. They were left agonizingly close though as Asselman managed.

Stefan Kung (Groupama-FDJ) stole the show at the Tour de Romandie today, taking a solo victory ahead of the sprinting peloton. Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) was 2nd and Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain-Merida) 3rd. Today was the only real opportunity for the sprinters at the Tour de Romandie and so it was Bora-Hansgrohe & Deceuninck-Quickstep that took up the chase, of the 7 rider early break, with the two stage favourites in their ranks. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka had hopes for Giacomo Nizzolo today, but being down to just 5 riders, we had to rely on the two sprint favourite teams to bring the front group back..
