Max Walscheid (Team Sunweb) sprinted to victory at the Munsterland Giro, ahead of John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) and Nils Politt (Katusha-Alpecin). The 2018 Munsterland Giro was an exciting race with crosswinds ripping the race apart with over 100km remaining in the 210km German semi-classic. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka were caught a the wrong end of the splits though, and were left chasing from the second group on the road when 40 riders broke clear. The narrow twisty and technical roads, coupled with the prevailing winds made it a tough chase as the gap continually hovered around the 30″ mark. Scott Thwaites, Reinardt Janse van Rensburg.
Munsterland Giro gets our final month of racing underway, with the German UCI 1.HC event taking place on Wednesday 3 October. The 198km semi-classic will cover 198km and it is the sprinters that will have high hopes of a result. Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka head to the Munsterland Giro with an experienced lineup, led by Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Edvald Boasson Hagen. Our South African has shown some decent end of season form and will look forward to being back on German roads, after his successful Deutschland Tour back in September. Boasson Hagen, fresh from the World Championships last Sunday, will be joined.
