The highly anticipated BinckBank Tour gets underway with some of the World Tour’s biggest stars all set to feature on the start line. The 14th edition of the race, over seven stages, is perfectly set up for a strong sprinting field as well as those who love one-day classic style racing. Stages one, three, four and five will all be eyed up by the sprinters while for our team the likes of Tom-Jelte Slagter will be targeting a good performance in an area he knows well, and in his first race since completing the Tour de France. Also included is Nic Dlamini, who is returning.
A pulsating final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos capped off a fine week of exciting racing and saw Igor Anton finish 5th on the day and fourth overall for our African team. Merhawi Kudus finished 7th and Louis Meintjes was 9th, overall. Ivan Sosa (Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec) won Saturday’s final stage by 19 seconds ahead of Miguel Angel Lopez and ultimately finished ahead of him by 17 seconds on the GC with David de la Cruz third, 11 seconds ahead of Anton. His performance on the day saw him earn the day’s ‘combativity’award. Kudus, who had started the day in third on the GC, finished.
