The opening stage of the Vuelta a Burgos saw Francesco Gavazzi (Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec) take victory ahead of Pello Bilbao (Astana) and Alex Aranburu (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA), who was third. It was a good day for our team that saw Merhawi Kudus round out the top-10 in a strong performance. An early breakaway was carefully watched by the peloton with Team Sky controlling matters for long periods. Within the final 50km a number of riders made moves to test the bunch, including Johann van Zyl, but nobody was able to make any of those stick. That saw the teams all together coming.

Monday’s third stage of the Tour de Pologne played out exactly as expected, and saw a bunch sprint settle matters after 139km of racing in Zabrze..
