Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) won the stage nine summit finish ahead of Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ) and his team mate, Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott). With over a week of racing completed, today was another battle for the GC contenders. With the stage offering two category two and one first category climb, it was a tough day in the saddle. The summit finish on Gran Sasso d’Italia proved critical in the stage. A break of 14 riders escaped 20kms into racing. Team Dimension Data were represented by our Eritrean climber, Natnael Berhane. They enjoyed a long day in the front, pushing their lead to eight minutes during the stage..
